Girls are like apples on trees

Girls are like
apples on trees. The best
ones are at the top of the tree.
The boys don't want to reach for
the good ones because they are afraid
of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they
just get the rotten apples from the ground
that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples
at the top think something is wrong with
them, when in reality, they're amazing.
They just have to wait for the right
boy to come along, the one
who's brave enough
to climb
all the way
to the top
of the tree.

borrowed from megan (whom i'm guessing is very young. Young, but profoundly wise :oD ).

Alright boys and girls, what say you?

Nice way to look at it! But there are also some rotten apples at the top of the tree though! Lovely!

@ oracle - thanks, and thanks for stopping by

@nyemoni – you’re right, some bad apples can find their way to the top of the tree. But then again, what is the ‘top’ of the tree.…?

Atutupoyoyo said...

Boys are like worms who penetrate the apple, disappear and make it feel rotten inside

UndaCovaSista said...

@atutu - Jeez, man *grabs by lapels and shakes vigorously* Snap out of it!!!!!!

Atutupoyoyo said...

LOL. Okay Okay I'm focused man. That your hot slap did the trick.

UndaCovaSista said...

@ atutu again - Good! Now go and hire yourself the best divorce attorney in town, cos I’m about to take you to the cleaners…bua ha, bua ha ha, bua ha ha ha ha ha….

NikkiSab said...

U know sometimes boys tink of good apples as a challenge and fight hard to pluck dat for d sport of it. Also some oda boy/worms will play with d rotten apples and then finally marry the good, juicy, ripe apple. The last batch who r those that feel purity is insanity-i.e to say she too good and i cant av her. We humans are so complicated. Good apples i salute u. Rotten apples still on the tree hold on tight to d branches cos u cld still b mistaken for tasty apples and rotten ground apples.....Every1 has a chance so try and find d good in u to let it shine.

UndaCovaSista said...

@nikkisab -well said! I personally dont believe anyone is all bad (as we are all born of God), nor all good for that matter (we're on a journey towards perfection - Ephesians 4.13)

Now, who can tell the class what the 'Tree' represents?

bighead said...

@undacovasista: let me guess... ur a gud apple at the top of the tree. abi?

u never marry atutu but ur already talking of divorce. do you see why we don't like "gud" apples?

Admin UD said...

WHAT IF the apples at the top deliberating made themselves unreachable either by commission or omission and the guys decided to take the ones that are ready and willing, whether rotten or otherwise

Manda said...

question tyme! oya undacova come n start answeing o!

@ bighead, yeye person.lol

UndaCovaSista said...

@ bighead - Ha! that's for me to know..
As per divorcing Atutu, it's not me o! The guy jaboed me without my knowledge sha. If you dont believe, check his recent comment to me on his blog. You know the way he likes to use big english, well, he called me his 'ERSTWHILE' wife!!! Ha! Me self i had to go and look it up...Lol

@ugo - What have i started now, enh? Ok. Let me see... well, i like the fact that you distinguish between commission and omission, as a girl may appear aloof with out actually intending to. so my question to you is - what will it take for you to pursue that good apple if you consider it worth having. Or would you rather settle cos settling takes less effort...?

@manda - Well, thanks for nothing girl.Lol. You're supposed to join in the discussion and not throw the questions back at me, so therefore i'm expecting your answer to ugo's question in 5...4...3...2....

bighead said...

with respect to ugo's dilemma, sometimes the apples are so hard to get that when you consider the cost it is no longer worth it. especially when you consider, like nyemoni, pointed out that some rotten apples may be at the top and by extension, some gud apples may be at the bottom

UndaCovaSista said...

@bighead - Thanks for that, bro. It'll be nice to get a female perspective too...

Incidentally, i came across a write-up by someone called Christian Carter on Why Successful Women Turn Men Off (i might post the whole email at a later date)

Here's an extract (abridged by me)-
"REASON #1: INDEPENDENT AND SUCCESSFUL WOMEN ARE SMART ENOUGH TO BE DANGEROUS Have you ever noticed that no matter how educated a woman is, it doesn't make her immune to the same kind of relationship problems that less educated women face?

They may even think they can figure out what's "wrong" with a man if he doesn't seem to be on the same page she is when it comes to love. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

You can't analyze or lay out the "logic" of a relationship to a man and, since you've figured it all out in your own mind... be able to CHANGE HIM and the relationship you both SHARE. He is either going to FEEL IT for you because the things you do and say around him fills him with the kinds of emotions that he wants more and more of... Or you're going to do things that keep him from FEELING the magic emotions of attraction, desire, connection, excitement, and LOVE... and he isn't going to want to spend more time with you and really be with you.

A man may respect your mind, but he won't LOVE YOU because you're "right" about what isn't working in your relationship. Think about it. What are you communicating to a man when you're spending tons of time figuring out what's not working... and then bringing all this intense thought and energy to him at a moments notice? How does he respond to this? Is this what you REALLY WANT? Hmmm...."

of trees and fruits.....emmm

the best/rotten apples are subject to individual opinion, some guys find their best on the ground and they live happy ever after...good for them.
Most times we try to tailor our love stories to the sucessful ones we hear..eg u no the gal that kept 'herself' till 32 and married the dashing young prince of lala land.
we are all different, our destinies are different same with our love stories good, bad, ugly, aristo chics and wateva.

rotten apples or not...just be what God made you flaws et al.

well..my tots

UndaCovaSista said...

@ hopeful b - True word! Good and bad are subjective terms and it all depends on the person who is doing the pickings' perpective

NikkiSab said...

Got this in my inbox a while back and I am like yeah right!

UndaCovaSista said...

@ nikkisab - My friend, answer d question! Which kind yeye sob (Lol)

@Unnaked soul - Lol. Ooooooooooor, maybe with the support of a good man they can remain at the top of the tree together, eh? Eh?

@30+ the agbalumo - Lol. All these men giving women relationship advice. Not to mention names *whispers loudly* : Atutupoyoyo.

Having said that, the women arent doing much better. Check out this post on Jeremy Naijablog's page - http://naijablog.blogspot.com/2007/09/kitu-kizuri.html#links

Atutupoyoyo said...

LOL. UndaCova my relationship advice comes with a money back guarantee.

LOL @ 30+: Agbalumo ko guava ni

UndaCovaSista said...

@atutu - being a scotswoman of ijebu extraction, i'm very pleased to hear that. Lol

@30+ - Do you know Trident chewing gum, the peach flavoured ones? Mastication for the nation etc etc? Tastes just like agbalumo chewing gum

Atutupoyoyo said...

LMAO LMAO!!. I don't believe this. I said the EXACT same thing to someone the other day about the 'peach' flavoured Trident. Peach my ass.
But seriously is there a better fruit in the world than the agabalumo? I think not. Think about it, every part of the agbalumo serves it's purpose. You suck out the succulent red pulp. You lick the oh so sweet seeds which can even be used thereafter as collectibles. Then you chew the skin till it is bone dry. How many other fruits are this multi-functional?

UndaCovaSista said...

Lol! Great minds, atutu, great minds

*Nods head in agreement*. Multifunctional is truly what it is

And there are so many ways of relishing the experience e.g.

i) Pummel it on the floor to extract the juice, then pull out the stem at the top and suck the juice out throught the hole, followed by the seeds and then, ONLY then, do you tear apart the skin to get to the flesh

OR

press it between your palms to split it into two and dive straight in for the seeds and flesh

of course finishing off by munching the hell out it and turning it into chewing gum

Jotees Trendz said...

wow! I 100% agree on this! But Atu is right o....boys are indeed worms! Slimy ones too!

AMAZONIA said...

i absoluntely do not agree. First of all i am not sure about the whole concept of girls being compared to apples.. Secondly the idea of the apples on the top waiting to be plucked, seems to imply the age old notion of women as being passive objects (apples). And men being active (pluckers). And the segregation of the apples from those on top to those on the bottom implies that those on the bottom are "easy" or "rotten" as she writes.. And we all know that such is not always the case, some times apples fall because they are shook. This poem enforces all the social stereotypes of men and women. ANd while i applaud her for having written it.. i am not inclined in any way to see any sort of truth in it.. Am glad to have read it though

UndaCovaSista said...

@ labelle - ouch, girl! That's harsh. But freedom of expression is welcome here..

@ Oui - The phrase 'girls are like apples' is clearly a comparison between two seemingly unrelated subjects, otherwise known as a metaphor (or a simile, if i'm to be pedantic about it). How you interpret this comparision strongly relies on your individual reality/viewpoint, hence my repeated question to previous commentators as to what they consider the 'tree', tree top' to be.

As far as social stereotypes go, the women's liberation movement sure has come a long way, but truth is that men will predominantly remain the 'pickers'. Though of course, the woman has a say in whether she wants to be plucked or not.

Phew! Let it not be said that the topics i choose to blog on do not generate healthy, intellectual debate!
thanks for stopping by.

Truer words have never been spoken. I realized this when I was 14 through conversations with my cousins. It would have been nice to have such a poem which puts it perfectly.

I plan on sharing this with my daughter and many nieces.

Ubong Da said...

hmm the so called rotten ones are the sweetest as they have started fermenting, besides they tend to know what they want without too much wahala and go for it.

UndaCovaSista said...

@solomonsydelle - Glad to be of service. i've got 2 teenage nieces myself and i'm determined to pass on as much wisdom to them as possible so even if they do have to go through the stuff i did, they'll at least have the comfort of knowing they're not alone...

@Ubong da - Hmmmm...... So what's your take on the good ones?
